Iowa State University students serve as Peer Mentors in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
Nearly 150 upper class students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will be serving as Peer Mentors in the college's 20 Learning Communities for the 2016-2017 academic year. Mentors help new students in the college make the transition to life at Iowa State University. These selected Peer Mentors are often involved with organizing study groups, social events, and out-of-class activities. Graduating Teacher Education Students Corded
Graduating students in the Iowa State University Educator Preparation Program have been honored to designate their rank as professional educators. The graduates were bestowed with cords of light blue, the traditional color of academic tassels worn by those in the field of education, in a ceremony on Friday, May 6, in Stephen's Auditorium in Ames. The Iowa State University Educator Preparation Program comprises students and faculty in several colleges. The program is coordinated by the School of Education in the College of Human Sciences.

Augustana College announces 2016 commencement participants
Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill., held its spring commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 22. Eric Christian Olsen, an actor, and Paul Olsen, Augustana professor of English and head men's cross country and track and field coach, delivered the commencement speech as father and son. Around 530 students participated in the ceremony.

Augustana Symphonic Band to perform in Home Concert
To conclude their Midwest tour, the Augustana Symphonic band will return home to perform the music they traveled with on their annual performance tour. The concert will take place on March 12 at 8 p.m. in Centennial Hall.

The Augustana Concert Band and Horn Choir performed their concert on Saturday, Febuary 13 in Centennial Hall. This group of student musicians shared their talent with the Augustana community. Selections included several pieces including "Summer Dances" by Brian Balmages, among others. The students were joined by the Rock Island High School Band.

A group of sixty student leaders in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences were honored for receiving the Fred Foreman Scholarship for Growth in Leadership Participation. Iowa State University students learn about food production in China
Iowa State University students spent two and a half weeks learning about food production and processing in a study abroad experience to China. As they visited four major cities/regions, the students saw various production systems of traditional Chinese food and medicine as well as the research facilities at the country's major agricultural institutions. This is one of the many programs through the Agriculture Study Abroad Office, who has sent students to all seven continents.

Iowa State University students get perspective traveling the world during spring semester
Over the course of spring semester, Iowa State University students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences took their learning outside the classroom and into a totally hands-on environment. The students traveled to places like Argentina, Brazil and Costa Rica over Spring Break, and to St. John for the semester, to learn more about chosen areas of study.
