Chapman participates in Student Challenge at Sports Turf Managers Association's (STMA) Annual Conference
An Iowa State University team placed 1st in the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) Student Challenge. Three other teams from Iowa State also competed in this exam contest to challenge knowledge in the sports turf industry at STMA's Annual Conference. To prepare, the team took part in a weekly study session in the fall and used knowledge gained from classes and internships to help with the exam. Students from 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities across the country are eligible to compete. The winning teams receive a cash award, a plaque and medallions for each team member. The prize money benefits the institution's turf program and creates opportunities for students pursuing a career in sports turf management.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will hold its first LAS Week from February 12 - 16, 2018 to celebrate the college's academic diversity and student opportunities. LAS Week student leaders have planned events to celebrate Physical and Life Sciences Day, Math and Computational Sciences Day, Communications Day, Arts and Humanities Day and Social Sciences Day.

Students saw agriculture and the life sciences first-hand in several European countries, Uganda, China and Taiwan through various study abroad programs this summer. The Ag Study Abroad Office offers students the chance to select a program based on their interest in the topic and the location. Through trips offered over breaks in the academic year, during the summer and semester-long exchanges or internships, students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences have been on all seven continents studying agriculture and life sciences.
Sixty-four incoming first-year College of Human Sciences students participated in Orientation at Iowa State University in Ames, June 19-20. As part of the program, students and their families met peers, signed up for classes, became familiar with the campus, and learned tips for making the most of their college careers.
